Egg Ship

Using the eggs from my favourite, feathery girls at the bottom of the garden I made a fun food, egg ship for the boys.

Recipe

– Toast

– Sauteed Mushroom

– Boiled egg

– Tomato

– Spinach

Method

1. I cut the boat’s hull from some toast.

2. Added a mushroom mast.

3. Sliced the egg in half, then used two quarters to make the sails.

4. Used tomato to make the prow and flag.

5. Then baby spinach for the sea.

6. And more spinach for the birds.

7. The other half of the egg made the sun shining in the sky …

Fun Orange Caterpillar

Fresh, juicy oranges make the perfect snack or dessert. Add a few grapes and that’s a fun food caterpillar!

Method

1. Slice oranges to make the shape of the caterpillar’s body.

2. Add some cut grapes for the eyes and mouth.

3. Use a little sliced orange with grapes to make antennae.

Fun Cheese Butterfly

Cheese Butterfly

A lovely, simple lunch or snack, a fun food butterfly!

Method

1. Cut out some cheese wings.

2. Add a body from cherry tomatoes.

3. Give her some corn eyes.

4. Cut some thin strips of celery for antennae.

Fun Yoghurt Cow

Yoghurt Cow

It’s easy to add a bit of fruit to a yoghurt to jazz it up and add some texture and sweetness.

Here’s my fun food cow which my boys just loved!

– Yoghurt (I used home-made Greek style). You could also use your favourite grain instead to make a porridge.

– Plum (or apricot/stone fruit/orange/melon)

Method

1. I made a sort of bell shape out of the yoghurt for the cow’s head.

2. Slice the inside of the plum into an oval for the nose.

3. Add some plum nostrils.

4. I redefined the outline of the head a little.

5. Then gave her some big, plum eyes.

7. Balancing it out with some horns.

8. I used some lighter coloured plum flesh to give her patches.

Here’s my fun food, kiwi car.

Method

1. Skin and halve a kiwi.

2. Cut a flap and a cockpit for the driver.

3. Streamline the kiwi!

4. Add a grape driver.

5. And four grape wheels.

6. Then cut a front and rear wing.

Fun Mash Castle

Mash Castle

It’s that change of seasons time when there is hot and cold weather. It’s great for variety in meals as there is a call for the hearty and the light.

Here is my fun food, mash and lentil castle. It could be made with any mash or veggie puree and any bolognaise style sauce and is really very simple.

Healthy food for kids castle

Recipe

– Mash (or other veggie puree)

– Carrots

– Lentils (or any bolognaise style sauce)

– Corn (or peas)

– Broccoli (or beans/spinach)

Method

1. Make the outline of a simple castle.

2. Cut windows and door from steamed carrot.

3. Carefully add the lentil mix.

4. Use corn to make the ground.

5. Add some broccoli trees.

6. And detail for the door and flag (made from broccoli stalks/carrot and corn).

A fun food clown for breakfast, easy and delicious!

Method

1. Cook the egg whites in a circular pan.

Fun Pear Mouse

Pears lend themselves to so many animal shapes!

Here’s my fun food, pear mouse.

– Pear

– Apple (or pear)

– Raisins (or blueberries/dates/plum)

– Dark plum (or raisins/blueberries/date)

– Long thread coconut

– Pepitas (pumpkin seeds)

Method

1. Slice pear in half.

2. Round off the “nose” end.

3. Add big apple ears by scoring slots in the pear for them to fit into.

4. Cut a round piece of plum for the nose.

5. Give her two raisin eyes.

6. And a long apple tail (I joined a few pieces together …)

7. Give her some ostentatious coconut whiskers.

8. Sprinkle some chopped pepitas for ground and there she is.

Fun Veggie Rocket

Veggie Rocket

I love roasting veggies. They are lovely and naturally sweet and the boys are always excited to eat. Here I have combined a tray full of roast veggies with some mash and some steamed veggies too.

A fun food veggie rocket that you can make from whatever veg you have on hand.

Method

1. Form the shape of the rocket from the mash.

2. Add the peas for the windows.

3. Use pumpkin to make the cone and the fins.

4. Use more pumpkin for the exhausts.

Fun The Cow Jumped ….

A simple cow jumped over the moon that you can make from pancake or toast. I used a cookie cutter to make this fun food breakfast.

1. Cut a cow out with a cookie cutter.

Fun Mandarin Flowerpot

Mandarin Flowerpot

Mandarins are so plentiful at this time of the year and make the perfect snack.

I’ve combined with some grapes and apple to make a simple, fun food plate.

1. Peel a mandarin carefully.

Fun Salad Jellyfish

I was looking at a capsicum/bell pepper and it spoke of jellyfish and an alter ego ….

Here’s my fun food, Salad Jellyfish.

Recipe

– Red capsicum/bell pepper

– Cabbage (initially I used red but then changed to regular!)

– Carrot (use any veg for seabed)

– Corn (substitute for other chopped veg)

– Celery (carrot/cucumber)

– Cheese (or veg)

Method

1. Slice the capsicum to form the top of the jellyfish.

2. Cut strips of cabbage for the tentacles.

3. Add some finely diced carrot for the seabed.

4. Then cut some fish. I used celery and cheese.

5. And added some corn for the seabed.

6. But it looked a little dull so I changed the tentacles to regular cabbage and wow, how much better does it look?!?!

Fun Oaty Bear

Simple, cute, nutritious and delicious!

Here’s my fun food, Oaty Bear. You can make him with porridge or Bircher muesli and of course any grain would work!

Method

1. Form the oats into a circle.

2. Add a plum nose.

3. And some plum eyes.

4. I used the plum cheeks to create big ears.

5. Then gave him a smiley mouth.
