OK, it’s third week of Nov so about time to start on the Christmas season designs. I don’t want to feel like a department store and begin months too early but then again at this time of year we are all so manic we also need to plan ahead!
I was really pleased with this fun food plate as it was simple and effective. That was until I showed it to Roy who said “that’s a great Bullwinkle”. Hmmm, had meant to go deer rather than moose but I think the antlers probably are a bit less Rudolph than ideal. Fortunately the mini chefs thought he was really cute and couldn’t wait to eat him. They got me to cut him exactly down the middle to share fairly.
– Papaya (or melon/pear/apple) for antlers
– Apple (or pear/melon) for face
– I used strawberry for nose and mouth (or other red fruit)
– I used blueberries for eyes (raisins/dates)
– I sprinkled desiccated coconut for snow
1. I cut a face shape from near the centre of an apple.
2. Then I carved the antlers from papaya. When I needed a bit of extra length I just cut a little extra as it fits together fairly seamlessly.
3. I sliced the top from a lovely, bright red strawberry for his nose.
4. I cut circles of apple for the outside of the eyes.
5. Then used blueberries as the pupils.
6. Little slices of apple gave him some ears.
7. Then all he needed was a strawberry smiling mouth.
8. A sprinkle of desiccated coconut for falling snow and he’s good to go!
