Tic Tac Toe Oats

Winter is well and truly here for us so some nice warm oats in the morning is a great way to fill the belly and heat the body from the inside. Throw in some fruit and it’s delicious.

Here’s my simple, fun food Tic Tac Toe (Noughts and Crosses).

Recipe

– Oats/porridge

– Blueberries (or raisins)

– Strawberries (or other fruit) or yoghurt

Method

1. Make a square from the oats.

2. Create vertical lines from berries.

3. Add the horizontal lines.

4. I used strawberries to make the noughts and crosses.

5. And thought I was finished.

6. But then wondered if yoghurt crosses gave a better contrast.

Fun Brekkie Bunny

Breakfast can be such a routine meal, but with a little extra time we can transform it into an Easter special!

Here is my fun food, wheatbrick bunny. Simple, cute and eaten in a heart-beat ….

Fun food for breakfast

Recipe

– 3 wheatbricks

– I used pear for the detail (apple/melon would work too)

– I used blueberries for pupils/nose/mouth (other dark fruit like plums or raisins would work)

Method

1. I soaked a wheatbrick in a little milk just so it would hold form but not enough to be “stodgy”. Using an egg ring to make the circular shape for the face.

2. Then removed it from the mold.

3. I cut two wheatbricks into rough ear shapes.

4. Before using some pear to make teeth.

 

5. And more pear for eyes (bit scary looking!!)

6. Then made the insides of the ears.

7. And to make him less scary some blueberry pupils for the eyes and another for the nose.

8. I cut a blueberry and stretched it to make a mouth shape and then framed it with pear whiskers.

9. Just add milk or yoghurt and hoppity hop into breakfast.

Fun Brekkie Bonfire

The large, really dark mushrooms reminded me of sticks so I decided to build a breakfast campfire around them.

Recipe

– Large capped mushrooms (rather than the button)

– Egg. I separated part of the yolk (so I could get the really orange looking flames)

– Tomato

– Baby spinach

Method

1. Cut the cooked mushroom into strips and pile into a campfire shape.

2. Then add scrambled egg as glowing fire.

3. With the cooked separated yolk becoming the bright flames.

4. Then using sliced tomatoes for red flames.

5. And spinach leaves for the surrounds.

6. Leaving no cooking to do.

Fun Brekkie Island

Whilst we have all these gorgeous avocadoes in season I have to use them. Avocadoes are so versatile as they can be breakfast, lunch or even part of dessert!

Here’s my fun food, breakfast island. Lovely and simple and the perfect breakfast served with toast or just as is.

Recipe

– Scrambled egg

– Mushrooms

– Avocado

Method

1. Put the scrambled egg down as “sand”.

2. Add a trunk from mushrooms.

3. Then some leaves from an avocado (cut in half then peel the skin back and slice).

4. But I realised my tree was out of proportion so sliced off some of the trunk and added a little more egg.

5. And an extra leaf with some mushroom coconuts clustered at the top of the trunk.

6. I scored the underside of the leaves with a knife to give them a “leafy” look.

Fun Giant Toadstool

Giant Toadstool

I found these giant mushrooms and just had to use them for a fun food breakfast.

I wanted something quick and simple so that’s what it is!!

Recipe

– Mushroom (big ones are easier to use)

– Boiled egg

– I used baby spinach and cherry tomatoes for the flowers

Method

1. I boiled an egg and sliced one end off then placed the flat bit downwards.

2. Then balanced the mushroom cap on top (after removing the stalk).

3. I used the remainder of the egg for the “spots” cutting rough circles.

4. But it looked a bit plain on the plate and I always add extra veggies whenever I can so …. I made some flowers.

I used baby spinach leaves with half cherry tomatoes in the middle.

5. Then made centres from some more of the egg.

6. A lovely, simple light breakfast.
