Fun Kids Food Art

Kids Food Art

Things have got crazy busy for me organising workshops, running programs, doing cooking classes and gearing up for a gig at the GF & Allergy Show. The boys have decided to help by doing some food art for me. And do it they have. Check out the Apple Hummingbird from Max and Joe’s Parrot!

Having Fun with Food

Perfection is not the aim

Zac’s mother has kindly sent me through photos of his “Gingerbread Man” dinner. Kids love their own “art” and love to eat what they have created. A masterpiece and perfection is not the aim. Eating healthy food with gusto is!

Zac (3) was given a gingerbread man cookie cutter and told he could create as he wished as long as he used something from every bowl 1) mashed pumpkin 2) beef mince 3) greens 4) tomatoes. He did and he ate and he enjoyed and it was as simple as that ….

Creative kids cooking ideas

When I do designs I try to make them look great and to create the impulse for people to eat. However, perfection is not a main priority. This is partially because food doesn’t lend itself to the same precision as found in other creative forms but mostly to make the food feel accessible to everyone. I am by no means either a great cook or a great artist but do want to make healthy food exciting and appealing. From there you and your mini-chefs can create your own food art using your own imagination, on hand ingredients and personal tastes.

(He was smiling all through but did NOT want his photo taken – and I can identify with that!)
Thanks Zac for sharing your dinner …
